Soldiers Vs Survivors
by Anthony Boyd
This scenario is intended to be played by people who are familiar with the rules from al the Zombie!!! games and expansions.
Objective of the Game
The objective of this scenario for the game Zombies!!! is for Soldiers to harvest samples from the undead and Survivors to protect the innocent, get to the center square of the Helipad and escape the clutches of the zombie hordes.Equipment
For this 12 player scenario you will need the following Zombies!!! products:
- Zombies 1
- Zombies 2
- Zombies 3
- Zombies 4
- Zombies 3.5 (optional)
- Bag of Zombies (optional but recommended)
Set Up
- Randomly pick a player to be dealer. The dealer should set aside the following Map Tiles: All the Helipads, Town Square, Front Gate, Front Door, Bridge and three T Junction (Media Buy). Remove all but any one of the Helipad Tiles (they won't be needed). Shuffle the remaining one into the Zombies 4 Tiles. Shuffle the Front Gate, Front Door and Bridge into the Town (original) tiles.
- Sets of map tiles are kept otherwise separate. On their turn players may choose the top tile from which set they choose.
- Place the Town square on the table.
- Event cards can be used in one of two ways but not both. Individual players may use their own custom deck (as described in Zombies 3.5 Rules) or sets of communal decks. If you are using communal decks each set of cards should be shuffled and used separately, with each player choosing freely from which deck they draw from. Don't forget to discard to the right deck. Remove the "Page of the Dead" cards and "We're all Friends Here" from the Zombies!!! 4 event deck. They will not be used. The deck of cards that is Zombies 3.5 can be used separately or shuffled into any of the other decks, in part or whole.
- Each player should be dealt three event cards, from any communal deck or own custom, and given three Bullet and Life tokens (two full and two half).
- The dealer also sets aside twelve tokens, six each of heart and bullet. Mix them together and place them picture side down.
- The players roll two dice to see who goes first. When each person rolls the dice they take one of these tokens. The token should not be regarded as usable, but should remain face down with the player. Players may look at their own token only. Those players who picked up Heart tokens are now classed as Survivors, whilst the players who picked up one of the Bullet tokens are Soldiers. These tokens can not be exchanged with other players.
- The player who roles highest (re-roll for ties), is first. They select any space on the Town Square to start. Play proceeds around the table clockwise, each player placing their Shotgun Guy on any square on the Town Square.
Game Play
- When one of the entry locations is drawn the player who did so also takes one of the T Junction tiles that were set aside. They first place the T Junction, then the entry tile next to it.
- Most of the game is played as outlined in the original rules and rules supplements from the expansions. Turn sequence, Player and Zombie movement, Event cards and Map Tile placement remain the same.
Objective
Soldiers have to enter the military base and collect brain tissue from zombies. Once they have enough they then need to evacuate to the secret helipad in the forest and escape. Or they can cut a swathe through the zombie hordes to help pacify the local population.
Survivors must visit the mall and bravely try to make it safer for other survivors. Once done they too must then head towards the helipad in the forest and evacuate. Failing that, if they can kill enough zombies they might be able to survive until help comes.
Victory Condtions
Players can win the game in one of two ways:
- Soldiers need to kill ten Zombies in the Military Base and evacuate into the helipad in the forest.
- Survivors need to kill ten Zombies in the Mall and evacuate into the helipad in the forest.
- Either Soldiers or Survivors kill thirty zombies.
Additional Rules
- Players should keep objective kills separate from ordinary kills. They should also declare when they have made the ten kills needed to win the game as soon as they have them.
- Players reveal that they are soldiers or survivors when they make their tenth objective kill. Place the token in between the Shotgun Guys feet/legs.
- Once the player is revealed as being either a Soldier or Survivor any kills they lose are first deducted from objective kills before non objective kills. If you die lose half of your non objective and half of your objective kills.
- If a Soldier shotgun guy piece moves on to the same square as a Survivor (or vice versa) they may attack. Both players role a dice (which can be affected as normal by bullet tokens and equipment). The player who roles highest wins. The loser has the difference in dice rolls removed from their kill total. This combat only lasts one round and no hearts are lost. A player may only attack any one player once per round.
Clarifications and Special Rules
- You can either use communal event decks between all players, or all players must have their own custom decks.
- The custom decks can not have the unused cards in them (see Set Up).
- The "Government Enhanced" zombies from Zombies!!! 2 are not used. Replace them with standard zombies where needed. This does not affect event cards.
- You can NOT get a Jeep at the Motor Pool in this scenario.
- The Zombie Dogs from Zombies!!! 4 are used as normal.
- Players can not have a minus kill score.
- Players may not exceed five hearts but may have as many bullets as they can get their grubby little hands on.
- Survivors can not attack fellow Survivors and the same goes for Soldiers.
- You can keep separate piles of zombies for both objectives even though one of them only counts towards kill totals. It may help to keep your identity a secret!
- You can kill more than ten objective kills so that if you lose some you might not have to go back for more.
- If you lose zombies before you are reviled, the player who loses them decides from which pile of zombies they are lost from.
- Zombie dogs can only be placed in Zombies!!! 4 tiles but may move to any legal space using the movement rules. This does not apply to the Event card "Where did he go?".
- Only one zombie per square or two zombie dogs.
- The player with the lowest amount of kills still places the Heliport tile, but it MUST be placed in the forest.
