Zombies!!! The Long Game

A Variant Created by Geoffrey Thirwell

Ever felt a bit cheated out of your fun if the game ends early due to someone slicing up 25 zombies? Ever wondered what happened after someone flew away in a helicopter. Ever felt frustrated that you never got a chance to cast that elusive spell? If so then read on...

The new stuff:

The game now has three different levels of victory, these are as follows:

  1. Minor Victory - Kill 25 zombies
  2. Major Victory - Escape via helicopter
  3. Ultimate Victory - Successfully cast the spell in the cabin.

If a player achieves a Minor or Major Victory then play continues however from thereon if a player is killed then they are eliminated from the game and may not rejoin as usual. The game ends if all players are either eliminated or have escaped via helicopters. If a player achieves an Ultimate Victory then they win the game outright and play stops immediately. But see the note on Midevil below.........

If nobody can stop the zombie menace by achieving an Ultimate Victory then the first player who achieved a Major Victory wins the game, if none of the players achieved a Major Victory then the player who first achieved a Minor Victory wins the game.

Eliminated from the game:

Just because you have been eliminated from the game and can no longer win you can at least try your dammed hardest to ensure that nobody else can win either. Reset your guts tokens to 3, you may not lose or gain further guts tokens. You still continue to take your turn as normal however you no longer roll for movement as you have nobody to move, you're dead remember! However you still can place tiles, draw and play cards just as normal. You may not play or use any items including spell cards. When you roll for zombie movement, roll 2 dice to see how many zombies you move rather than the regular 1 dice.

Helicopters

If you manage to get yourself a helicopter you now have the option of either flying away to the relative safety of a nice tropical island (probably already swarming with zombies, but hey that's a risk you're willing to take) or fly off to another part of the city to kick some zombie ass or maybe even find that log cabin and put an end to the zombies for good!

Either way you have to make up your mind soon as you don't want to run out of fuel on the way to safety do you! When you land clear the centre square of any helipad roll a dice. The result is the number of turns you can afford to fly around before you either have to land or decide to fly away. For example if you roll a 4 then you can wait up to 4 turns but on your 5th turn you have to land or fly away. While you are making your mind up take your turns as if you are eliminated from the game but retain your guts tokens, continue to roll only one dice for zombie movement and you're still alive!.

You may not land on a tile with another player in the centre square, it wouldn't be very nice now would it!

Place a token on the centre square of the tile you wish to land on, remove any zombie on the square and add it to your collection (I'll leave the details to your imagination). You may take your turn as normal on the turn you land.

If you return to your helicopter, or if another player decided to steal it from you, you must fly away as described above and may not land again.

The End!...(what do you mean the spell didn't work!)

If you are really sick then even if some lucky soul manages to cast the spell successfully you may continue play by using the Midevil and Midevil 2 sets as follows:

The player who cast the spell and any players who flew away in helicopters are dragged into the past (you didn't think you could get away that easy, and no the helicopters didn't come with you). Survivors from the Zombies game retain all lives, bullets and items (other than "I see the Helipad" because you can't see it anymore). If you wish as an optional rule you can use the Guts rules from Zombies 5 and retain your guts tokens. Discard your current hand and draw a new hand from the Midevil deck. Anyone who was eliminated from the Zombies game can now rejoin the game as per usual.

Play continues as per the normal Midevil and Midevil 2 rules and hopefully it may really be over now!
