Concept and Introductory Paragraph by Peter Hansson
Story by Mark Bordenet"Yes, I know the town is freaking out, and yes, there're zombies everywhere. But you listen to me, kid. The phone is still ringing and people still have to eat, so stop whining, get on your bike and deliver those pizzas before I hit you with my spatula. Zombies don't eat pizzas so just hold on to your brain and you'll be fine. Now get movin'!"
Bob Swentzel, grizzled owner for twenty-two years of the west-end Bob's Burger & Pizza Place in Malmo, lectures his newest worker, Kenny Walton, on how crucial doing his job is to the status of both the store and the town's psyche.
Bob continues, "OK, all four of our shops in town are short-handed tonight, so all of your are going to have to help make deliveries for them as well. After you complete your delivery, just check in at the nearest Bob's and take up the next delivery. Got it!"
The three workers attentively standing in his presence, Kenny, Jennifer, and Tyrone, all vigorously nod in acknowledgment.
"We have three deliveries waiting. Tyrone, you take the one to the Go Mart Gas Station. Jennifer, you get the Police Station, and Kenny, my newbie, you get the Florist Shop. He's one of our best customers, so be quick. You complete five successful deliveries and you can go home. Danny is all alone in the kitchen right now so help him get the orders finished up and any new ones started, then GET MOVIN'!" Bob slides back behind the bar to answer the phone.
"I can't believe we have to still deliver pizzas given what's going on outside tonight," questions Kenny.
"Just wait until you have to work on Halloween night," quips Tyrone.
"Hey, everyone, I could use just a little help back here," calls out Danny from the kitchen.
The three workers hurry back to the kitchen to aid Danny in completing orders.
"OK, I've got your Tyrone and Jennifer. Kenny, finish putting the toppings on your and shove it in the oven."
"Hey, before you two leave, come with me to the back. I've got something perfect for tonight."
Tyrone and Jennifer follow Kenny as he rushes back to the lockers and opens his.
"Look, I've got four." Kenny hands both Tyrone and Jennifer a walkie-talkie.
"What are we supposed to do with these?" ponders Tyrone.
"We can use them to communicate out there. I don't know about you, but I'm not too comfortable having to deliver pizzas with zombies running around."
"Actually, Kenny," starts Jennifer, "zombies don't run. They sorta-kinda stagger, and not very swiftly at that. I think you'll be fine."
"You're still mad about the time I got glue in your hair in second grade, aren't you? You always have to question me or point out any flaws. Just trust me on this one, OK?" asks Kenny, almost begging.
"All right, Kenny, Jennifer and I will take your toys with us if it will make you happy. Can we get going now?"
"Thanks, Tyrone. Let's go get our pizzas and get out there and deliver. Put all your devices on channel four. I'll give the other one to Danny, just in case."
The three workers all hurry towards the front, box up their pizzas, and head out on their deliveries.
"The Go Mart is up this way," points Tyrone. "See you guys later."
"But we'll be in contact constantly, thanks to Kenny's little toys."
"I'm picking up your sarcasm, Jennifer. Just let it go about the glue in your hair. It was almost an accident."
Frustrated with Kenny, "I'm leaving. Good luck, Tyrone," and she takes off in the direction of her delivery.
The three workers all head out in the direction of their respective deliveries. Tyrone encounters a few zombies on his way, but he tears right through them and is almost at his destination. Kenny makes a run for his destination, shakes off a few zombies, and approaches his destination as well. Jennifer gets held up for a moment, out of some unexpected fear, and takes some time to rest and catch her breath. She rounds the corner to make her way down the main road towards the Police Station. Reluctantly, she decided to break down and use the 'toy' Kenny has provided for her.
"Guys, the whole road to the Police Station is blocked off with zombies. How am I going to get there?"
"Jennifer, so glad to hear from you. Listen, I'm just now walking up to the Florist Shop, double back and come down Ridgeway Drive. I cleared it out."
"OK, I'll do it. You can help guide me. Thanks, Kenny."
Unfortunately for Jennifer, Kenny has lied to her and there are still zombies on Ridgeway Drive. He made his way to the Florist Shop while going straight through the main road himself, however, he chose to simply dodge most of them while he made a quick run through, avoiding much combat.
"Um, Kenny. This isn't much better here." Fighting off panic, "I thought you said you cleared the way for me?"
Trying not to laugh, "Jennifer, I did. Or I thought I did. Hey, I just made my first delivery and I'm heading into the south-central Bob's. The zombies must have just regenerated or something. Of course, you are the expert on zombies, and everything else, so you figure it out."
"No time to yell at you. Must fight now."
Jennifer proceeds to fight her way through a swarm of zombies and is near the front of the Police Station.
"Jennifer, are you OK?" calls out a concerned Tyrone. "I'm here at the north Bob's and I'm heading down towards the Skate Shop, which is near." With concern, "Jennifer, are you all right? Do you need help?"
Suddenly a very deep and loud voice resonates through the transmitters.
Bob picks up the transmitter on the counter next to Danny and yells, "Newbie! What the Hell are you doing out there! First off, that pizza you delivered to the Florist Shop was lacking one thing. You didn't bake it, moron! And as for Jennifer, you better pray she's all right. Jennifer, can you hear us? Please respond."
"I'm fine, guys. Thanks for the concern. Just had to clean up where Kenny was afraid to tread. I'm just walking into the Police Station. I'm going to take a smoke break before my next delivery."
"No problem, Jennifer. Glad to know you are all right. How are you doing, Tyrone?"
With a very calm voice, "Fine, boss. Maybe it's the anchovies and mushrooms on this pizza, but I'm not having any problems with zombies. I just kick away any that approach me. I'm just now to the Skate Shop. That will be my second delivery. My second delivery that is. Kenny, you suck."
"Shut up, Tyrone! Remember that time in fifth grade when I saved you from getting your butt kicked on the basketball court? You still owe me."
Bob chimes in again. "Newbie, get your ass back here and deliver another pizza up to the Go Mart Gas Station. A certain Mr. Johnson is waiting for it, and I want you to personally make this delivery. Consider it a chance to redeem yourself."
Little does Kenny, or anyone other than Bob Swentel for that matter, know that Mr. Johnson is the name of the former owner of the Go Mart Gas Station. He now is Mr. Johnson, head zombie and good friend of Bob Swentel's. Mr. Johnson gives Bob a call every now and again when burgers and pizza are not enough to satisfy his appetite.
Premise
You are all working as delivery boys (and girls) for Bob's Burger & Pizza Palace. The zombies are out `an masse' today but you still have five more deliveries to make before you can call it a day (night?) and flee the town.
Game set-up and play.
Search the map tiles for one of the four crossroads that have Bob's burger place as one of the four corner buildings. Put that tile on the board and place all players inside Bob's. This is the starting space for all players. This Map Tile does not have any Zombies placed on it (from the beginning).
The first player to deliver five pizzas (or burgers) and leave the town through any road that does not lead to a new map tile wins the game.
Special rules:
You are all equipped with delivery bikes and may always add your current health to your movement roll. (Yes, even when you move inside buildings. With zombies all over the place who knows which exit you'll use.)
Buildings (that is all named map tiles) do not contain any zombies when they are placed on the map, only the Life and Bullet Tokens. Zombies may later enter the building through normal zombie movement. That means zombies are only placed on un-named map tiles, as per the regular rules though.
At the start of every player's first turn, that player rolls on the Pizza Delivery Table to see where they have to deliver a pizza. To deliver a pizza a player has to enter the chosen building and end their movement inside the building.
Once a pizza is delivered the player have to return to Bob's Burger & Pizza Palace to pick up a new order. Remember that there are four locations that have a Bob's Burger & Pizza Palace and it doesn't matter to which one the player returns but their movement has to be ended inside the fast food building. At the start of that players next turn, he makes a new roll on the Pizza Delivery Table to see where the next order goes. When the fifth pizza is delivered the player only has to move out of town using any legal road that leads of the current map to win the game.
Should a player die he may restart in any of Bob's Burger & Pizza Palace but with one less delivery accomplished. (It can't get lower than 0 though.)
